Hi, Judy.  Do you sleep on your side?  Is the pain just in your knee, or is does it run all the way from your hip to your knee?  Is it a deep, aching pain or a sharp pain? Deep hip brusitis can cause a person's knee to hurt like the dickens. There is something called iliotibal band syndrome. I have that issue and I get cortisone shots in my left hip once a year. It is very painful, and it makes your knee hurt a LOT and makes it difficult to sleep. That is just one thing that could be happening, and there are many, many others.  Best Wishes, V

Hi Judy,

This happens to me too. I actually stumbled across this forum looking up "Methotrexate + Leg Cramps".  I don't see what drugs you are taking, but judging from the hundreds of hits I got with the above keyword search, I'm convinced mine is due to a lack of exercise and the drugs I take, methotrexate being my baseline RA med.

What are you taking? Do you know if there is a known side effect of your meds and leg cramps? The info on the web about "charlie horses" indicates that they are normal and not too troubling, but as my cramps go into my feet tells me this is yet another "special" feature of RA or the meds.

You are not alone.

Is the pain generalized to one area like the knee or is it more of a cramping pain.  Front or back of the leg?  Tingly?  Numbing pain?

These questions can help us to help you as far as suggestion to eleviate some of the discomfort or whether the pain is med related, nerve related, or inflammation.

You've already had several good responses, but I just wanted to add one piece of advice. Make an appointment with your doctor to get this checked out.

And please let us know how this go?
