Q: Long-term effects of immunosuppressants what can be done?

I am trying to find information on what to do about antibiotics not working anymore? I have been on immunosuppressants for 12 years was diagnosed with chronic ulcerative colitis 12 years ago and rheumatoid arthritis about 5 years ago. I seem to have no immune system left I am constantly waking up with some type of infection in the fall I almost had a finger amputated from an infection. Most recent I have sinus infection and bronchitis and after 3 antibiotics which by the way made me so sick I was throwing up I am still infected. I don't know what to do...I can't stay on Humira long enough to get any pain relief and after months of antibiotics and being off imuran my colitis is starting to flare up. Any suggestions??? I am scheduled to see an infectious control doctor next month but am so scared I am going to contract something life-threatening and antibiotics won't cure me...

There are drugs that can rebuild your immune system. My suggestion would be to begin taking a B100 complex every night before bed. This will boost your immune system. You might do some research on herbal rememdies that will boost your immune system too. IT's worth a try.

I do not know for sure, but i have 2 nephews who have (Brutons disease)-which they were born with no immune system. And they have to get (IVIG) treatments once a month. Even somthing as common as the cold could be very serious for them with out the treatment. This could be the answer for you-But im not sure!!!

Hi,

I hope you are feeling better. I have asthma and awful pain due to lyme disease that has effected my immune system too. You however sound like you need to see Doctor Stricker in San Fransisco, or Christine Greene, same office, I think they are on sutter st. He is a hemotologist and I think he can really help you. I will pray for you also. God bless
