Q: Does anyone else have a reaction of severe sweating and hot flashes with Simponi? I've had to be off for a root canal and in the 2 weeks since I stopped the sweating and hotflashes also stopped.

Hi, Cindy,

I love your profile pic.  I have two cats who allow my husband and I to share their house with them. That is a cat and a dog sleeping together, right?

Severe sweating and hot flashes are not listed in the possible side effects of Simponi, but they don't list ALL the possible side effects. I think you should mention this to your doctor and see what he/she says.  I also wonder if any other meds you are taking may, when combined with the Simponi, cause a problem.

If you don't want to wait to see your doc, or hear back from him/her on the phone, you could call your pharmacist.  I find them to be extremely helpful in this area.

Hope you find you answer, Cindy.

Peace,

V

Yes that is one of our 4 cats who is best friends with my 'hero' dog. My dog Lil is by my side contently and seems to be aware when I'm going to have a bad flare. I want to thank you for getting back to me. I have, at the advice of my rheumy, stopped the Simponi. I haven't had any of the over whelming heat and hot flashes since.

love your profile pic!

it does sound as if the Simponi contributes to the sweating and hot flashes, but I would recommend that you discuss this with your rheumatologist. If the Simponi is working well for you, one option may be to reduce the dose a little to let your body acclimatize gradually to the medication. I'm on Humira and one of the side effects is called "warmth." And I am a lot warmer when I'm on it, often getting sweating and hot flashes after my shot, but for me, the benefits are worth it. Besides, I have also have fibromyalgia and getting warmer definitely helps those symptoms, so the side effects of one medication turned out to be beneficial for my other condition. Wink

I discussed this with my rheumatologist and  we decided to discontinue the Simponi for now. Low dose of prednisone is helping a bit but the fatigue is coming back full force. He also diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and bursitis. I've always been a multi-tasker but this is ridiculus! We are going to wait 2 months and possibly try infusions. Thank you so much for replying to me.

that's too bad.... I know that feeling of the RA starting to come back and it's no fun at all. Having both RA and fibro at the same time is also a complete pain in the arse - it takes a while to figure out what works for one condition and what works for the other. For instance, being quiet and not moving too much helps with the RA pain, but when you are in one position for too long, the fibro makes all your muscles seize up and it increases the pain. Check out the fibromyalgia section on our Chronic Pain site for more information about this condition and tips for coping.
