Does anyone know of a health insurance plan that accepts RA

Lisa

My best friend has RA. She had to quit her job about a year ago and her cobra insurance is running out. Her husband is self employed and can not get into group insurance. She is not having any luck finding an insurance company that will pick her up with her RA.  Does anyone have any suggestions of who might cover her with her existing condition of RA?

I have heard in the past that Aetna accepts pre-existing conditions.  I also have heard that it has wonderful coverage.  That being said, I also have found you a site that might help you find more information.  Here is the Health Central site:

http://www.healthcentral.com/rheumatoid-arthritis/insurance-help.html

I know how frustrating it can be to find health coverage when you have RA, I have been there.  In fact I have been there twice.  I hope this can help you friend!  Good luck and best wishes!

I'm on a similar search.  I have RA and need to find new health insurance.  My husband is a pastor and considered self-employed and therefore we cannot get group insurance either.  Have you had any luck yet?

Thanks for any info you may have found.

Me too!  Pastor husband.  Have RA.  The only place that seems to accept us is Blue Care (My Blue) because they are nonprofit and cannot deny anyone.  However, the coverage is expensive and inadequate--especially if we would like to have prenatal and maternity coverage made available.  I keep thinking we can't possibly be the only people in ministry with an ill family member...this can't be the first time this has come up…but my research keeps leading me to more people with whom to commiserate and no concrete answers.

I'm in the same boat.  The cost of COBRA is killing me.  I spoke with Aetna this morning.  They said that RA is an AUTOMATIC DECLINE.  I even offered to pay my meds out of pocket.  They said it doesn't matter.  My RA is very mild and my meds would cost about $60 per month.  My COBRA costs me $375 per month.  UGH.

I hope this answer is not coming too late.  I have had similar issues.  You may want to contact the National Association of the Self Employed.  They offer health insurance.  Their underwriting varies by state, but they try to be lenient with pre-existing conditions.  Good luck.

I am your best friend. I was in remission and just got out about 5 months ago. I just recently moved and have been unable to find work and am in chronic pain. I desparately need health insurance so if you find a company who takes her RA...i would love the information.

Thanks and i wish her luck i know how bad it can be.
