Topics:Enbrel side effects

I am going to start taking Enbrel Monday and was wondering if anyone on Enbrel can answer a few questions about the side effects.   Has anyone had problems with weight gain or hair loss?  I've read a lot about injection site soreness, but that's about it.  Any help?

thanks

I was diagnosed 4 years age

the only side effect I had was injection site soreness so I started doing it in my stomach instead of my thighs and have not had any problems with it since.  But I have no other side effects with it.

Thank you.  I'm hoping that is all I encounter.  I was on Methotrexate for 3 months and didn't really notice a lot of change, but had some hair loss, and acne.   I'm always afraid of what to expect when starting a new med.

Thanks for your comments.

Laura,

After each injection, your hair may fall out just a little more (than it usually falls out), but nothing major. I haven't had any weight gain with Enbrel and I've taken it for about 3 years. (I've starting jogging again recently and I've had severe RA for about 10 years.) Enbrel is a true miracle drug. Sometimes patients go into full remission after using it. My daughter recently starting using Enbrel for RA. She is feeling much better now. The injection site reaction will look sort of like a bee sting - it shouldn't be too bad. You can apply a cortisone cream to the injection site afterwards or take a Benadryl tablet before you take your injection if you prefer. After a couple of months of use, you will probably not even have injection site soreness or swelling. You might also feel a little hotter (body temperature)than you normally do. I hope that Enbrel works for you. I know you'll feel better shortly.

Thank you for your response.  Thats wonderful that you are able to start jogging again!   I've heard before that Enbrel is thought to be a miracle drug.   I'm looking forward to starting it.

thank you

Enbrel has worked wonders for me and I've only been on it 5 months.  I commute 2 hours a day back and forth to work, I go to football games (attended Southern Miss college game this past Saturday and walked at least a mile - and I'm going to another one this Saturday, I play league tennis year round, work in the yard, ride 4 wheelers, etc.....

I haven't had any side effects.  You should go ahead and try it, it might just be the miracle drug for you.

Good luck and God Bless!!

Thank you so much for the positive feedback. I had my first injection today, so I'm expecting good results. I can't wait until I start to feel better.  I've been told that sometimes after the first or second injection I could be feeling less pain.

thank you again
