Restrictions with Enbrel
Does anyone know what type of restrictions there are while on Enbrel? I like to go to the tanning salon and hope that I will be able to continue with that. I forgot to ask the doc last week. Also occassional drink (of the alcohol sort), hope that is ok. I'm assuming that you live life as normal since I wasn't told NOT to do anything differently.
Thanks for any info you have!
As far as I know, having the occasional drink is okay, but that is definitely something you should check with your doctor or pharmacist. As for tanning Enbrel, I don't know. I do know that when I was in Enbrel, my skin got very sensitive, so you should probably be careful. There's also some debate about whether the Biologics cause an increased risk of certain cancers, so again, I would recommend that you discuss the issue with your doctor. You can also called the Enliven support program run by the makers of Enbrel - they'll probably be able to give you more information.

HI Laura, your skin can become more sensitive on Enbrel. All drugs affect your liver so drink in moderation and you should have your blood and urine checked bi monthly. Since your immune system is compromised, you should try at all costs to not be around sick people (it's difficult!) and be careful of cuts, scrapes etc as you can get infections. Hope that helps. My Dr is always warning me!

I don't think my Rheumy said anything about having blood/urine tests. What are they looking for? Also, as far as cuts & scrapes...as long as you swab them with alcholol, put on a bandaid, that is sufficient?
I'm not use to being this careful. Up until the last couple of years, I hardly ever get sick, but that does seem to be changing. :>(
Probably my greatest threat is going to be from my husbands grandkids. There are 9 of them and they frequently come over with little infections/colds etc.
Well, thanks so much for everyones input!
