Hi, Grandma C,

I started out on Plaquenil and NSAIDs and pain medication.  Then I moved to MTX, NSAIDs and pain medication.  I couldn't function on that med combo, and my inflammation markers in my blood were dangerously high.  My RD added Humira to the mix and my markers are coming down.  I am also having some "good" days now.  I would think that it all depends on the level of disease activity. Some people may do perfectly well on a DMARD and pain meds.  Have you discussed this with your doctor?

Best Wishes,

V

I'm on plaquenil, sulfasalazine and MTX because the last three biologics stopped working for me. So far I'm ok, but not great on days that I have to work. Also the side effects (mostly nausea) bother me more than any I've had with injections and infusions. On the good side, it costs less than $20 a month. If I wasn't working and could rest whenever I needed, this would probably be enough.

I started on MTX, then plaquenil, then sulfasalemide(?) and leuflodimide(?), even Actemra and they all messed with my tummy.  He had me on prednisone for awhile and I was improved, but I did not like taking that all the time...my weight went up and I felt awful.  I requested we re-try the other meds again, and since the least hurtful was Actemra I am now back on it and doing well.  Good luck...remember to discuss with your doc how joint and possibly organ deformity may progress without RA meds to control the RA.
