Hi Sue,

Does your mom have health insurance?  When I had orthodic inserts made for my shoes, it was covered as a medical expense.  They were not cheap but I was very glad to have some help from insurance to pay for them.

I don't know the specifics about your mom's feet and need for individually-made shoes.  Perhaps she could work with her doctor to find a more economical solution short of having a pair of shoes made.

Also, there are specialty businesses online which do sell mismatched shoes (size-wise).  You can google "shoes two different sizes" to find some of these stores.  However, they might not be able to provide the type of special shoes which your mother needs.

Go back to the doctor and see if other suggestions can be made.  It may be expensive, but proper footwear is so very important for people who live with RA.
