Q: Age limits on meds?

I posted this in a couple different places, sorry if you have read aready...

Just really need an answer  Embarassed

I finally got a chance to see my Rhemy. been a year...grr and the pain is getting worse.  He has decided to put me on both Lyrica and Celebrex.  Now before eveyone starts writting all their bad expriences with these..please note I am aware.  I am willing to give it a try, knowing that everyone is different, I figured I would at least try them.

I am on Medicaid (Gov. Healthcare)  I pay 120.00 a mth to have it and it covers somethings with co=pays, of course <grrr>.  Knowing that, I called my Pharm. today to see if they are ready yet and I was told they both needed a PA (prior auth.) one came back totally denied.  I was told that one of these, can't remember which, has a age limit of 60.  Meaning I cannot get it because I am to young, being in my 40's.  Has anyone else ever had this problem?

   Thanks for listening

Hi,

I have a neck injury and get radiating nerve pain..... My doctor prescribed Lyrica. My insurance denied it because they will ONLY pay for it if you're diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. As for the Celebrex, I thought they wouldn't give it to you if you were OVER 60. I seem to remember something about it increasing the risk of stroke in that age category.

Did you ask your pharmacist to contact your doctor for the PA? I find that it usually works better if the pharmacy goes between insurance and the doctor. They all speak the same alien language! Wink

hello again and thanks for the comment.s,

Just to update-  I am waiting still to hear back from the Pharm & Dr. Office.  The PA's have been sent in and now we play the waiting game.  The bottom line- "these Meds are very expensive" as I have been told.  My Ins. does want to pay for them really, my Doc has to prove I need them badly "and they may even deny again", I am told.  Nothing said as of yet about the comment made by another Pharmicist saying that you have to be 60+ to take them.  I will keep you updated.  Boy, we sure do need some sort of health care reform and stop these darn Pharm. Companies and Insurance Companies from being so greedy people cannot get the help and medicine they need! Not my first time to this 'rodeo'.....Undecided
