Q: Rash with RA?

Can an "all-over" rash be part of a flare?  My husband started with a rash, now has horrible joint pain & swelling - hands, wrost, elbows, & knees.  No fever.  Doc says it's probably an allergic reaction to some med.  Didn't test for RA.

Hi Roselyn.  My road to diagnosis started with a rash!  I had a horrible rash on my wedding ring finger.  OTC cortisone didn't work so I went to my (now ex) doc who decided that the rash and swelling in other finger joints was due to a fungus.  I went to a dermatologist for this 'fungus' and the first thing she did was do some blood work, testing for RA.  The allergic reaction to something that I've been wearing for over 20 years was what got her attention.

Get a second opinion right away.  It seems that sometimes primary care docs can't see the forest for the trees.

Good luck to you and your husband.

Has your husband considered Lyme disease?  RA is one of the more common manisfestations of LD.  The rash can vary widely.
