Are there any drugs that are safe to take for RA if I've had a nephrectomy?
I was taking Enbrel and it worked very well. Unfortunately after only two weeks of use I found that I had kidney cancer and had to discontinue use of the Enbrel (not caused by the Enbrel, of course). Are there any drugs that are effective at treating RA and also not too harsh for my one remaining kidney? Thank you
This is a hard one as I know that most medications used to treat RA can be harsh on your kidneys. The important thing is have a team to care for you right now. And what I mean is that your rheumatologist has to work in combination with all your other doctors in the treatment for your RA. Speak to your rheumatologist about your concerns with medications and your kidney. Your rheumatologist should be able to put you on a long term treatment plan that will not damage your kidney. I know how scary and frustrating all this can be, so keep your head up. Good luck and best wishes!
