I have a hearing next week after a 2 year waiting period. My question is has anyone been through this? I am a bit nervous not knowing what to expect at the hearing. Amy information would be helpful. Hope everyone is well today and thanks a million!! Becky

I personally did not have to got through a hearing but I have a couple friends who did. They say it is it is a small room with you, you lawyer and perhaps a character witness such as one of your doctors along with a panel of 2 or 3 "professionals" from the social security disability department.
A few questions are asked of you and your reps. My friends have all said that they sat there wondering what the questions had to do with your personal ability to work. Generally they said the hearing is so that someone can actually lay eyes on you, not so much to ask questions. From what I understand, allowing your lawyer and doctor to speak for you is the best policy.
Good luck, we are pulling for ya. I went through almost 2 years of waiting for SSDI to make a decision also. I know how emotionally and financially excruciating it is. I wish you all the best.

I realize this was posted back in October, but I am wondering how it went? I, too, have a hearing scheduled (finally!) next month, and I've been in limbo for over three years waiting. Now that it's finally here, I am so nervous and nothing can be as bad as what my speculative mind has been imagining (I hope). So please, can you share with me how it went?

Hi Robin, You sound as nervous as I was But it wasn't as bad as my mind had it worked up to be!! LOL My hearing was held in a small room with just the judge, a voc, speaker and my attorney. Everyone else does most of the talking and then the judge will ask you a few question. Mine only lasted about 20 minutes. infact I just received my approval letter in the mail this Saturday so it took about 3months to hear from the judge after my hearing.But now I can breath alittle easier. i will keep you in my prayers! You will do fine just don't give up!!! Keep me posted ok?

Hi everyone, I am in limbo now... my hearing was October 15th and I am still scared, nervous and waiting to hear from the judge. I'm so afraid I should have said more than I did. Plus, it seem as though they were more focused on my back issues than my Fibromyalgia or RA. My back is pretty messed up! I just hope the judge takes the rest into consideration. Now, since you have your answer already and you went the same time I did. I'm now even more nervous than I was before!

Hi, try not to worry to much, if your judge was anything like mine they are very somber people. You can call your local social security office the phone number should be on the same paper you received telling you when your hearing was. When you call them just tell them when your hearing was and you would like to know if a decision has been made. When I called they told me it was still in review and then about two weeks letter I received my approval letter in the mail. keeping you in prayer! Keep me posted ok? Becky

Thanks Roni for the information. My emotion are really out of control right now and you are right the finacial burden puts alot of stress on people. Hopfully after your waiting period everything was settled in your favor? keep pulling for me kiddo I need it! LOL Have a wonderful day.
