Fish oil recommendation?
Does anyone have a good fish oil supplement brand they would recommend? I need to start taking them, but have no idea what to look for, which kind is best, etc.
Ahhh! I just recently traveled this road myself. Had a bottle in the bathroom that I would look at periodically and then say.....NAAAAAH! The very idea kinda grosses me out. I mean, how the hell are they getting the oil off these guys anyway? I keep picturing people wringing fish like dish rags. But perhaps these are musings best kept to myself, eh?
Here's what I found; the recommendation is at least 2.6g 2 times a day. Many suggest starting out at a higher dosage as much as 6g total per day and then backing off to the original recommendation. My fish oil comes in 1000mg capsules so I am currently taking 2 of them at breakfast, lunch and dinner. My brand is called Bareman's (I think) and has an orange flavored coating so I don't get even a whiff of "fishy" on the way down. I would mostly suggest finding a good health food store and asking a lot of questions. You are right that all brands are not equal and you need to be somewhat aware of mercury content and such. I'm going to try and find an article for you and get it posted here...wish me luck!

I highly recommend using fish oil...if you use it daily, it even helps with your complexion and skin. Although it's not as pleasant, the liquid form is more effective than the capsules. But saying that, the capsules work too!
I use Nordic Naturals, sadly it's on the higher end in price. I've also used spectrum, but don't recommend their liquid form. The Nordic Naturals capsules seem comparable to the liquid form, which is why I recommend them.

I take Nordic Naturals Pro Omega Liquid- approx 30grams daily. It has made a huge difference in the way I feel. It is the best brand on the market, pharmaceutical grade, molecularly distilled which is what you want because of the high dosage. It is a liquid but I chase it with juice so its not bad. It must be refridgerated so when I travel I take Coromega (different company)

Yes, this is indeed the best for RA patients due to high concentration of EPA+DHA. I think the person above meant 3 gm daily and not 30 gm! There is 3 gm of EPA+DHA in one teaspoon which is excellent. The ProOmega Liquid is now called Ultimate Omega Liquid. My mom started with 2 spoons a day, which is about 6 gm for the first 6 weeks as per Arthritis Foundation, but please check with your rheumatologist or medical professional since this exceeds the 4 gm safe limit per day and needs to be under doctor supervision. We buy fresh direct from a authorized reseller - WORLD OF OMEGA. They deliver using fast 2nd air shipping for free.
