Ahhh!  I just recently traveled this road myself.  Had a bottle in the bathroom that I would look at periodically and then say.....NAAAAAH!  The very idea kinda grosses me out.  I mean, how the hell are they getting the oil off these guys anyway?  I keep picturing people wringing fish like dish rags.  But perhaps these are musings best kept to myself, eh?   Here's what I found; the recommendation is at least 2.6g 2 times a day.  Many suggest starting out at a higher dosage as much as 6g total per day and then backing off to the original recommendation.  My fish oil comes in 1000mg capsules so I am currently taking 2 of them at breakfast, lunch and dinner.  My brand is called Bareman's (I think) and has an orange flavored coating so I don't get even a whiff of "fishy" on the way down.  I would mostly suggest finding a good health food store and asking a lot of questions.  You are right that all brands are not equal and you need to be somewhat aware of mercury content and such.  I'm going to try and find an article for you and get it posted here...wish me luck!
