Q: looking for the right regimen for my RA symptoms

I need someone to help me to find the right regimen to control symptoms of my RA. I was recently diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma after 5 yeras of Enbrel and MTX. These two medications controll my symptoms very well but now I had to stop due to my current diagnosis. I tried Rituximab infusion and am on Sulfasalazine, low dose of Predinisone, and Naprosyn. I am struglling with joint pain, stiffness, and fatigue everyday even with all these medications. Is there any other treatment for me? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I wish I could answer your question, but it only raised another one for me:  I have not heard of follicular lymphoma but am trying to get more info on the long-term risks of Enbrel... I've been on for over 4 years, and have 'eczematous folliculitis' according to my GP (little red itchy bumps on my legs).  I'm guessing that the 'follicular' in your disease title has to do with the lymph nodes and not the hair follicles, but it's enough to make me nervous - I was never put on MTX because my liver enzymes were high when I was diagnosed. and a few time since.  No one can ever figure out exactly why, though they seem to go down again...

I am so sorry for what you are going through, it's anyone's worst nightmare.  I will pray for a solution to bring you to a healthier state and peace of mind.  I find that Tai Chi helps my state of mind as well as body, and avoiding certain foods also (red meat, green peppers, and in fact just eating less meat reduces pain - meat seems to gum up my digestive system.  I also have reflux.  Is any of this similar to you?

How did your diagnosis come about?  I have not been feeling as well, I'm sensing that my lung capacity is diminished - I'm not regularly short of breath but can't sing  as much, even sitting down.  I'm only on Enbrel at the moment, having given up on Celebrex due to stomach pain (after already giving up on Bextra, Mobic, etc... over the last several years ... I have some Fibro as well as OA.  Life can be a pain!)

Best wishes, please share what ever you are comfortable sharing...

Hi,  You need to let your doctor know that you are still having problems. See if he/she can put you on something that will work for both of your dieases.

Jade,

When I was first diagnosed August 2007 my rheumatologist started me immediately on MTX and celebrex.  A few weeks later added Lyrica then by January 2008 I was on injections of Humira one every 2 weeks (also MTX, Celebrex and Lyrica)  After about 1 month after adding the Humira I felt like I could conquer the world!  I felt awesome, lots of energy, no more fatique where I HAD to lie down, very focused, no pain.  It was amazing how great I felt Jan 08- Sept 08 then I developed an infection in the bursa of my elbow.  Within 24 hours it spread up and down my arm and I ended up in the hospital for 4 days with amazing amounts of antibiotics to fight off what was MRSA (that penicillin resistant staff infection)  It was terrible.  I had to have a PICC line into my heart (put into the vein on my other arm) for medication to be infused every day for 15 days.  It was quite an experience, but the first thing the doctors did was took me off of MTX and Humira because my immune system was so low due to those meds.  I stayed two weeks without any meds then back on MTX, Celebrex and Lyrica, but no Humira.  I am now on Plaquenil twice daily in addition to my regular meds, which is not as hard on the immune system.  RA, as you know, is an autoimmune disease, so what was helping to keep my body from fighting against itself, was also making me sicker by lowering my immune system.  Catch 22, huh?  But I'm better now, but not as good as Humira.  I'm hoping that the months on Humira helped to decrease in onset of my newly diagnosed RA and will help to keep it from getting worse.  All I can do is hope and have faith that God will take care of me and use me to glorify Him.

Best wishes to you.

You said you are on something like nyprosyn, this is a quick fix but adds to break down maybe you should ask your RA doc about what may happen in future with taking that,Tumeric is really great for swelling and it has no side effects, yea!, im sorry to hear about the lymphoma, I pray alot during these rough times to bring hope and answers and guidence.  We have to keep asking and reaching out as you keep stepping forward.  Now that I have RA we are financially bankrupt and I need to get a job, bad thing is the pain, granted its not always but when you have a job how consistantly well am I going to be, makes be sad and feel defeated as to what I need to do but it is what it is and forward is the only way, I do have God in my life, I rely on him these times to pick me up when I can't and to hold me tight and help me so if he can do wonders here I am do me!  I wish you success and I'm hear to listen and talk with you when you need it, glori
