Q: Steroid Injections & RA Nodules

I had a steroid injection in a medium sized nodule on my heel last week. After the bruising went away, I want to say that my nodule actually looks bigger. Yikes! Has anyone had any type of success with steroid injections in RA nodules? My foot doctor proclaimed his disclaimer that the injection might or might not work, but I was avoiding the minor procedure to have it surgically removed from my heel. The nodule doesn't hurt but after constant friction from shoes all day, it becomes irritated and painful. I would appreciate any feedback from other individuals who have had steroid injections in their nodules. I hope someone had success out there! Take Care.

Yikes!!!  OUCh!!  Wowsers!!!

Well, my story isn't so much a nodule and not on my heel!!  It was into the inner knuckle joint near the palm of my hand in order to get my birdie finger to relax/release.  Basically my middle finger was stuck in a fist.  Nurse straightened my finger while doc injected into the joint where finger and hand meet (it was extremely swollen and hard like a nodule.

Well, guess what!!  No it didn't work and my whole hand balled up for about a week or so.  I don't know if it was actually my RA attacking the cortisone or what.  It took a high dose of prednisone and muscle relaxers to open my hand.  Needless to say, the birdie still will not stand up straight.  LOL.  And I never went back to that doc!!!! Yes, he had a disclaimer.

Is your nodule on the bottom of you heel.  I could not imagine!!!

Your birdie situation sounds awful too. I'm starting to gather that the steroid injection was futile. I gave it a good try, but I also wondered if my RA could attack cortisone too. Ugggh, go figure.

My nodule isn't on the bottom of my foot. The nodule has the nice location on the back of my heel where the normal heel of the shoe stops on the back of your heel. The constant friction of the shoe aggravates the nodule and it flares and gets angry.

Well, I appreciate your feedback. I gather no more steroid injections for nodules are necessary else where since this one didn't seem to work so well.

Best of luck to us! Take care.

I had a nodule on my middle finger injected with steroids and the nodule went away in about 2 weeks, completely gone after 2 months. I also had one surgically removed to confirm that my problem was due to RA nodules (confirmed). So wait a bit, it may go down. My dr. warned me that it may not work, but it did! Good Luck.
