Q: Would like to know about the result after taking biologics and its reactions for the treatment of RA

I am a 33 year old woman. Suffering with RA since last 6 years. Had Methotrexate since last 4 years. There was a relief for about 2 years. Now again severe joint pain (knee joints) and stiffness especialyy in night. Now I would like to have biological medicine in consultation with my docor. Would like to know how far it will help me. Kindly advice me about its side effects also.

Like you, I suffered with symptoms for five years and was finally diagnosed a few months ago. My doc and I tried sulphasalazine (allergic) and then methotrexate (really bad reaction). So, I started on Enbrel. It has been a real life saver for me and many others. I'm still early in the treatment (1-2 months) but the fatigue is much less...I can function quite well. Joint pain and stiffness are much less and I trust will continue over time. I actually look forward to taking the injection because I know what's coming...help! Carefully weigh out all the options and side effects. Consider your overall general health because biologics may not be good for people with history of infections or other immune issues. In the case of Enbrel, it's been sold publically for over 10 years (on top of five years of clinical trials) and has been shown to work for about 3/4 of those who take it. Similar results are seen with the other biologics.

Read all you can especially on this forum.

I hope that you find relief soon!
