do other peoples rheumatoid doctors give them anything for pain? mine says she doesnt believe in pain meds

You need to RUN away from that doc! That's nuts! She doesn't have the pain, YOU do. Cut your ties and find a better doc.

Brad is right. Painkillers are not a religion you can "believe in" and a doctor - a rheumatologist, no less! - who says such nonsense is not a good doctor, has no idea about the realities of living with RA and should be dumped as soon as possible. Go find yourself a good rheumatologist, someone who will work with you instead of against you (for tips on what makes a doctor or one of the good ones, click here).

Half the blame has to go to me, on this one. Everytime I told my RA doc I was having pain he would just say hang in there and take this med. Give it a chance to work. If it didn't help then he would just try another kind of med. This went on for a couple of years. Finally I put my foot down and he gave me percocet 5mg. When they were almost gone he didn't want to refill it.

Don't suffer any more than you have to. Get a new doc...take charge don't be a dummy like me.
If you have RA you WILL need pain meds. Don't feel guilty about asking for them.
