Q: Is QuantiFERON - TB Gold (QFT-G) blood test good enough to determind TB's status?

I grew up in Asia and had TB vaccine when I was a kid.  My doctor started me on Enbrel a couple weeks ago and all my symptoms disappeared.  Because the TB vaccine that my skin test will turn out positive.  To be sure I was told to take the full course TB treatment drug (Isoniazid INH + vitamin D 50,000IU) for 9 months.  INH may cause liver problem and I will need blood test every three weeks which I don't like.

I have a friend with same background.  Her doctor in Stanford University ordered a new blood test called QuantiFERON -TB Gold for her and said that one test can decide the result.  When her test came out negative she was ok to move on RA injection treatment without the 9 months TB treatment.

I researched online on the test and it seemed not very clear on that.  It says that the test is believed to be better at avoiding the false positives, however, more study is needed, especially in use of the test on children and in people with compromised immune systems.

I would appreciate it if I could learn more about this test or any experience on the blood test.
