Q: Has any tried the "blood type diet"?

I just started eating foods that agree with my blood type and kicking out foods that are supposedly "toxic" to my type. My nutritionist has recommended this and gave me a guide to follow. Does anyone know more about this and why some foods are toxic to your type and some aren't?

Hi Robin,

Yes! I went to a naturopath after my Methotrexate dose was making me feel awful and wondered if there were other things I could do.  I am a A blood type, so she suggested no Dairy, red meat or acidic foods.  It seems a bit restrictive at first, but you can get little booklets that fit in your handbag from amazon for about $3 that tell you what you should eat.  I found that my PMT symptoms went away - no cramps or breast soreness! And now that I have switched to Arava, I don't get any Diahorrea....possibly because of the diet.  And no more bad tummy or gas, definately a plus for my husband!  I haven't found that its reduced my flares any...but having flares without any other symptoms is definately a bonus.

Good Luck!Cool

My neighbor with lupus has found success with this kind of diet.  My sister--not dx'd with arthritis..but has joint problems--also found success with it.  I have not tried it because it prohibited my favorite foods.  No coffee?  Please!  I'd rather not go there.

No coffee, for some of us is very healthy.  A few hours after I drink coffee, my heart starts pumping extra...so, I have had considerable success following these suggestions...on the foods that are to be avoided, when I avoid some of them, the indigestion bouts disappear.

You are one of the lucky people so please be cautious before bashing it.  It does have a high degree of validity, and, like all theories there are some flaws...but for the most part it is beneficial.

I have been following the Blood type diet for O's( my type) for almost a year now.  Because it's a low glycemic diet for me I found that when I had to take prednisone for 3 months I did not put on any weight or get the moon face.. I believe due to the fact that when you follow a low glycemic diet you keep your sugar levels even and therefore crave less ... Does anyone out there who follows a low glycemic diet feel that way? You pretty much cut out all the wheat gluten from your diet.. At your natural food stores there are breads , english muffins, tortilla, hotdog and hamburg rolls that are labelled" EZEKIEL"  live grain bread that the wheat gluten has been removed.... Delicious toasted!! Following a gluten free diet for me has given me more energy and I truly believe that my RA would be so much worse.. Interesting  to me was that I started this way of eating months before I was diagnosed and that information  about my blood type in the book( Eat Right For your Blood Type) predisposes me to autoimmune disorders like RA... just coincidence maybe, but interesting none the less....

Hi, I see your post is over a year old, however, I thought I would respond because I am curious as to how your health is to date.  I too, have RA and I am Blood type O.  I first read the Genotype book D'adamo, then moved on to his website and the bloodtype diet. My RA (and the pain and stiffness) has been really bad lately.  I have faith in the bloodtype diet because it makes so much sense.  Yes, the sugar cravings are gone and I dont miss wheat at all.  I just keep hoping I can find some magic missing link to make this pain and swelling go away.  You know, some days are much worse than others.  Anyway, hope all is well.  Hang in there.  Suzan

Just found out about this today.  Evidently it has something to do with the akaline in the body.  Some foods are very acidic and some are akaline.  The more the body is balanced, the lower the toxicity and immune responses.  You blood type determines which foods will react which ways.  For every acidic food you eat, you need to offset it with two akaline foods to balance.  Hope this helps.
