This can be complicated. While an epidural cannot cause rheumatoid arthritis, if you were tensed up and experienced pain afterward, and already had rheumatoid arthritis, then it can cause the pain to be more severe. It is funny how RA is diagnosed. Many times people come in for something that may be unrelated to RA, but get the diagnosis of RA from blood tests results. I do not know of anyone who has been diagnosed with RA after an epidural. Now if you had the epidural due to childbirth, I know many people who have been diagnosed with RA after childbirth. Good luck and best wishes!
Yes, within 3months of having the epidural, i had RA, i was told that the RA was nothing to do with the epidural, but that it became active after having the baby, which apparantly is very common. I was 32 years old and in excellent health. is there a link between RA and epidurals? During my second pregnancy the RA dissappeared and i was realy well after the birth, i had no epidural with this birth and must admit that it was quicker, easier and less problematic during the birth, afterwards i was straight up and about.
