Q: Infusion Therapy

I have taken a turn for the worse, all my joints at this point have swollen with the inflammation and the doctor has told me that since I had a bad reaction to the Humira he does not want me doing another injection as it could make things worse.  Instead, he stated I need to start infusion therapy very soon.  He gave me literature for Remicade and Orencia.  I am leaning towards the Remicade as I felt the literature for Orencia is very vague and does not give me much to work with.  Is there one that is better than the other?  (my history has been reactions to all the oral meds and injections, I am not able to use Methotrexate because of nodules on my lungs). I have to let the office know by tomorrow afternoon so they can start preauth with my insurance.  I am still researching as well.  Thank you for any help I can get.

Unless your doctor is specifically recommending one over the other, I don't think it matters. Different medications work differently in different people - you had a bad reaction to Humira, other people are doing very well on it. The same goes for the infusion drug. If you feel more comfortable with Remicade - which has been around longer so it stands to reason that there is more information - then you should go with Remicade.

Good luck!
