I generally recommend staying away from stimulants and appetite suppressant - they're not really healthy at the best of times, but when you have RA, your health is already compromised, so I would recommend trying to find other ways of getting energy.  Managing your energy and beingeing more careful with noticing when you need rest, for instance, instead of burning your candle at both ends. Sometimes, taking a nap can restore energy so you're ready to do more. I would also recommend that you consult a licensed naturopathic doctor for assistance in improving your overall health, which may help increase your energy. Most of the immunosuppressants like Enbrel or methotrexate cause some degree of fatigue for a couple of days after you take your dose and in my experience, methotrexate pack more of a punch in that respect it Enbrel. You may wish to talk to your rheumatologist about alternatives that can help you be less tired. Instead of starting at the gym, maybe try yoga or tai chi - there are more gentle way of exercising and me keep you more energy in that respect.   As well, fibromyalgia also has a serious fatigue component and until you get to the point where you can manage the fibro a little better, that's going to stick around. Fibro interferes with your sleep cycle, which means you never get the rest you need and that's why you're tired - one of the treatments for fibromyalgia is to take one of the older forms of antidepressants like e.g., amitriptyline, which restores your sleep cycle and therefore give you more energy. As well, I can highly recommend Lyrica - it's one of a few medications approved for fibromyalgia and it really does do wonders for your pain levels. Check out the fibromyalgia area of our Chronic Pain site for more information about fibro, medication and general coping tips.
