Wednesday, June 30, 2010 Concerned daughter asks

Q: Anyone taking Rituxan that not only has RA, but also the following? . . .

mom with great-grandbaby. . . muscular dystrophy, osteoperosis, neuropathy and COPD? Anybody?? I know this sounds horrific, IT IS!! My mother suffers from all of these diseases and has tried EVERYTHING and even has a stimulator to help with the pain. The Rituxan infusion is the last recourse from RA doc. How in the world could we know if this is the right treatment (aside from lots of prayer!) I certainly don't expect anyone else to have all of these issues combined, but if anyone has at least 2, please respond.

Bless you, Concerned daughter

I will put your mother on my prayer list.

A couple questions.

Which type of MD does your mother have?  The neuropathy and MD are probably running hand in hand like RA and Fibromyagial do.

I don't know what other treatments your mother has been on.  My first red flag is the COPD with Rituxan.

Is her rheumie consulting with her GP for history of respiratory infections and what not or is the rheumatologist also treating all the other conditions she has?

Rituxan is a big step to take for RA. I know it works for lymphoma (my mom was on it before it was released as an RA med), I am not sure it will help with the MD and other conditions.

Your mother is a very strong willed woman!!  Give her big hugs and kisses. And kudos to you for standing beside her.  I have been in your shoes while my mother battled her multitude of issues.  Please if you or your mother have reservations about the Rituxan or any of your mothers treatments, speak loudly about it with your doctors.

Keep us posted, please.

Ronie

I don't have all that so I can't really respond. But I just wanted to tell you my prayers are with your mother. What a great daughter she has in you.
