Q: I had a total knee replacement in 06' Im still having severe pain! my dr did a X-ray & found a large gap in knee replacement. What could this be? I don't see my dr till March so I'm confused! Any help

I was in a car accident in 03 which resulted in a left above the knee amputee and several complications to my right knee and ankle. Since then I have had several operations on both my knee and ankle. I don't understand why I have still had such constant pain in my knee after a total knee operation that was suppose to help my pain? It did make my knee more stable feeling when walking but that's it. What could this gap shown in the X-ray be? The nurse that did it was even con fussed cause she said she had never seen a knee replacement with such a large gap. It was about 3/4 of an inch wide??? Any answer would greatly be appreciated because I'm really worried a out it and I don't go back to my dr until March???

Hi, Butterfly,

I am not a doctor and I have no idea what that "gap" means, but I think March is too long for you to wait.  I would suggest calling your doctor's office and informing them of the pain you are in and the xray result.  I would think in light of those circumstances, you doctor could manage to get you in sooner than March.

I'm sorry you are in so much pain. Definitely sounds like something is wrong. Please call your doc and see what he/she says.

Best Wishes,

V
