It depends. For many people, including myself, Enbrel and the other biologic is our miracle medications that have enabled us to get back to living our lives. It does come with a number of side effects, some potentially very serious, but for most people they are quite manageable - check out a post I wrote last year about managing side effects for some tips and tricks that can keep things down to a dull roar.  you may also want to read a post I wrote called Better Living through Chemistry that talks about weighing the pros and cons of taking the big drugs, whether it's the Biologics or big painkillers.

The benefits of Enbrel and the other biologic meds is that they are the most bang you can get for your buck and the more aggressively you treat the disease, the more likely it is that your joints will be protected from the kind of damage that can affect your future mobility.  That's the medical side of it. The personal side is that these drugs can help you laugh everyday, play with your kids, walk the dog, go to work, do the laundry - all the things that can be hard to do when your RA is not managed well. Each of us decide how much our lives are worth and ultimately, you're the only one who can make that decision.

I have been on enbrel for almost 4 years and the last 2 years I'v been taking two shots a week.  Before that i was on humira,  I was constantly sick on humira with sinus and upper respritory infections. I have no side effects at all with enbrel, except maybe the occasional welt that I get from injecting(maybe one of two year).  So yes, I do believe that the benefits out weigh the side effects, because I have minor aches andpains.  Not anything so major that I can't cope.  But every one responds differently to meds.

I have been on enbrel for over a year, and have really good results, I am off methotrexate and have started loosing weight. that helps a lot. I would recommend enbrel  I take one shot a week, I dont even have to go to ra doc, for 3 months and I havent done that since i found out I had RA> I still have days of being tired but they are not as bad as when I was on methotrexate. I hope this helps you.
