For anyone on Plaquenil or Prednisone:
If you happen to bruise yourself, do your bruises sting or feel like needles pricking you for as long as the bruise is purple? It's not particularly painful, but there is discomfort when touching (like putting lotion on, shaving, etc). I'm wondering if this is tied to my meds, because I've not experienced it before, nor have I seen it listed in the side effects of either drug. Just curious if it's just me. thanks!
I have found that bruises stay a looooong time. I've been on prednisone since June.

Yes. I get these "mystery bruises" that seem to come from nowhere and stay for at least a couple of weeks. When I touch them, it does feel weird-not like a "regular" bruise. I am on Plaquenil, prednisone and sulindac.

I'm not on either, but taking large doses of vitamin C can help if you bruise easily (you can read more here and here). Still, I'd run the strange bruises by your rheumatologist, just to check.

I experience the exact same sensation. Feels like a hundred needles pricking me when even slight pressure is felt over the brusied area. I also have neuropothy so I wasn't sure if it was symptomatic of that issue or if it was med. related., I take plaquenil as well as lyrica and celebrex. I have expressed this to my Rheum. doc and have gotten a rather vague nodding of the head, taking the info in, but not really knowing how to answer. Like you said, it only feels discomfort when pressure is placed against it, but those seconds are excruciating! It seems like the common denomanator is Plaquenil .... the drug manufacturer needs to put that on their list of possible side effects so this mystery is answered. I personally have been looking into this periodlically for the last 4 years & this was the first hit I got on my search.
