Q: Does anyone else suffer from cold hands and feet while on Plaquenil and Prednisone?

Even though I live in Arizona where the winters are mild (at least here in the valley), I find that once my hands get cold, they stay cold for hours.  It's more so in my right hand than my left hand.  I use a space heater in my office to no avail.  I run them under hot water til they warm up (but it only lasts about an hour).  I looked up reasons for cold hands/feet and side effects of the meds I'm on (Plaquenil and Prednisone) and  read on WebMD that Raynaud's Syndrome (cold hands/feet) is secondary to RA.  I do not experience pain or stiffness much anymore since my drug combo, but I only recently noticed the cold hands/feet, lasting longer than usual.

Of course I'll bring it up at my next rheumy appt next week, but I was just curious if anyone is plaqued with it too ?

Hey,

Yup, I was just to see my regular doctor about yet another ear infection and a virus... gotta love being immune suppressed. But I digress... Tongue out Anyway, I asked about my hands because they go icy cold... she said reynauds and that just as you found out on webmd, it's secondary w/RA. Weird stuff.

Hope you're having an awesome week in beautiful AZ!!!

pretty much you just have to live with it. I have it and I just make sure I have warm cloths and mittens for winter, heating pads, electric blanket, and slippers!!

I only take Plaquenil but my hands and feet are cold all the time...especially now that it's winter.  Once they get cold, it's difficult to warm up.  I never really made a connection with the medication because I'm sorta like that anyway.   I would be interested to know if there is a link.

There is a good website, Raynauds.org where you can get helpful info. on dealing with it. I have it too. I use a heated computer mouse. I also use microwave heat sacks to warm up quickly.
