Q: ra and acupuncture

I have been going to for acupuncture for my ra and I had to stop going because the longer I was going the more pain I was in. Id like to ask if anyone has gone for acupuncture for their ra and had it flare up because of it and also any one elses experience with acupuncture and ra would be helpful.

I have had acupuncture a couple of times, not close together, and find it helpful.  It seems to unblock my energy and give me a real boost for at least 7-10 days. But there is the danger (which I'm suffering today) of then overdoing my activity.  Then I have to slow down and recover.  It doesn't take away the RA or the underlying problems.

Today is a 'slow down and recover' day - I had an awesome day yesterday and today is bad, I REALLY overdid it.

and yet - I'm glad I had yesterday, overall it was worth it!

I had acupuncture when I was fairly new in the disease. It caused me to have increased pain because it "woke up" everything. I didn't mind the acupuncture, in fact is was relaxing, but I would flare after it and, after trying it for a year, gave it up. I then told my rheumatologist who agreed that acupuncture could help with OA, but not so much RA.

I get accupuncture monthly for my RA and feel great afterwards. Never had any flareups after. Make sure that your accupuncturist has been trained properly and has good credentials. Mine was trained in Japan and actually had a large practice in Japan before moving here. There are many who crossover into the professional with several seminars over a short period of time.
