I HAVE FIBROMYALGIA AND RIGHT NOW I AM HAVING EXTREME PAIN IN MY HIPS AND DOWN MY LEGS. IT MAKES WALKING VERY DIFFICULT.  I TRY TO WORK OUT, BUT THIS IS NOT HELPING.  I HAVE A HARD TIME SLEEPING, AS I CAN NOT EVEN GET IN A COMFORTABLE POSITION.  I TAKE LORTABS 3 TIME DAILY JUST TO GET THROUGH THE DAY. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I have fibromyalgia, too and there is no pain like it. In my experience, regular painkillers don't really do much for fibromyalgia pain, whereas muscle relaxants like cyclobenzaprine can be more helpful. Due to the nature of fibromyalgia pain, it is often more effective to treat the cause rather than the symptoms and there are few medications that have shown promise and are now specifically being prescribed for fibro. One type is some of the older antidepressants - I know, it sounds weird, but it really does help - and another that has recently been marketed for fibro is Lyrica, a medication for nerve pain. There's a section about fibromyalgia on our Chronic Pain site that you may wish to look into for more information about coping strategies, medication, etc.
