What do i do during a flare up?

I just started getting flare ups and I don't know what to do with the pain. I don't know about taking more medication... maybe there are foods that can help with the swelling? Or laying a certain way? anything at all would help. :)

Fish oil helps with swelling.  Its a great supplement you can take.  As far as laying a certain way, unfortunately it just varies in what works for different people.  Try heating pads or ice packs and see which one works for you.  I prefer heat.  And hot baths.  Not only is the hot water wonderful on your joints, the water supports your weight which takes off pressure from your joints.  Also place a call to your rheumatologist and let him know you are in a flare.  If you don't want to take more medication make sure you let him know and see if he has other ideas on what you can do our maybe more supplements you can take.  Flares are awful, and I wish I could take your pain.  I hope you find true relief soon!  Good luck and best wishes!

I'm sorry you're having a flare.  Absolutely call your rheumatologist right away and discuss the situation.  I understand being hesitant about adding more medication, but big problems need big solutions.  If the flare is impacting your life significantly, changing or adding medications might be worth it.  Aside from rest, heat and ice treatments and water, you can also get some symptomatic relief from gentle massage and meditation.  You can also try to rub the affected areas with oregano oil as needed - it's good for pain relief.

Good luck in finding your way out of the flare.
