Q: Looking for a Rheumatologist in my area?

What do you do when you can't find a rheumatologist that will treat you! I am currently seeing a nurse practicitioner, but we know, she doesn't know what a rheumatologist would know.  My meds that she has me on, Plaquenil is not working like it used to, and she doesn't really know what to change me to.  I have only be diagnosed with RA since 2007, but have had it a lot longer.  What do you do?

go to the yellow pages or google local rheum's on line.  Then call around and see if you can get an appointment.  Know that you will wait probably upto a month to see someone, ask to be put on their cancellation list.

Hey Denise....you can always call your insurance company and they can refer you to rheumatologists in your area that are on your plan.  Then you can also if you want go to your state AMA and look up that doc's name and see if he has any bad issues he's or she's involved with.  Good luck!!!
