Believe it or not...but in our Internal Medicine office....most every person that complains of hip pain...it's usually their lower back. The pain will radiate down into the hip. Good Luck.

Hi Jim

Hip pain can come from several different things including the low back. If the pain is severe and you can reproduce it by applying firm pressure over the hip joint (use your fingertips) it may be bursitis or tendonitis. Arthritis could also be one of the causes. If it is bursitis/tendonitis it may respond well to cold packs and gentle stretching. Should it not improve it would be good to visit your physician for an evaluation.

Hope this helps.

I have the same problem with my hips.  My RA doc said it was bursitus.  I just ordered a new pillowtop bed.  Hopefully that will help.  I wake up about every 2 hours and have to rollover to the other side.  I've alway slept on my stomach or side.  I can sleep on my stomach anymore due to bad disc in my neck.  And I can't stand sleep on my back, so I'm hoping the new bed will solve my problem
