Q: Could this be RA?

I am a 46 year old female that has been having problems with my knee for years now after a fall.  My Dr. said x rays show that I have arthritis in both knees.  I had an MRI last week and am waiting to hear the results.  I am having problem with my gait when I walk, it doesn't seem like I can walk in a straight line.  If I walk on uneven ground, I feel very unstable.  There have been several instances where I have felt my knee give out and have fallen.  I fell last week in the grocery store.  My husband was there....I was so embarrassed.  I don't feel like I can do anything without support for fear of falling.  I was wondering if this could be RA after reading info about it.

Has your doctor tested you for RA. Ask him to do some blood work. If it is only in your knees, sounds more like it could be OA--osteoarthritis. RA, usually starts in the smaller joints, then works it way to the larger joints, but not all cases are the same. Be sure to tell the doc that you are not steady on your feet. Does he know that you have fallen? This could be unrelated to what is going on with your knees, or it could be meds. if you put you on some.

Basically only your doc can answer your question. Bring a list of everything that is going on, that way you don't forget to tell him everything.

Good luck!! Let us know what happens with youl.
