Q: jaw pain and orencia

I have started using orencia, and have noticed new jaw pain, an addition to the headaches, has anyone else had this side effect? Or is it possibly arthritis staring in my jaw?

Of course I cant say for sure-

But as someone with tons of RA jaw pain, I can tell you that RA certainly gets the jaw joints. Can you tell more about what it feels like? The RA can continue to spread to more places in some people even on the medicines.

Also, I have never heard of that as a side effect of Orencia. I also take Orencia. Is it helping you? It takes a long time, so it may be too soon to tell. They have told me 3 to 6 months before we can be sure.

Good luck to you,

I have had only two treatments of Orencia so far, but out of the blue my jaw aches especially after chewing, the arthritis is basically everywhere else in my body, and the pain is like someone hit me with a hammer in the face. back near my ear and going forward to both upper and lower jaw. sometimes stabbing,  but mainly just an ache that feels horrible.

Karen,

Not a doctor, but as someone who has that same pain, I would not blame Orencia. My jaw pain is similar to what you say. Be sure to tell the doc about it.

I have been surprised more than once about where RA attacked next. I would always think it's done going everywhere...

I told my story here on my blog. It tells about my shock about the jaw in ch. 7. I'm pretty sure I had already started the medicine when it got there. I was definitely on the medicines before it went to my hands anyway.

Hopefully, the Orencia will give you relief soon. Good luck.

I have been on Orencia since July of 2011 and am just now getting jaw pain with horrible ringing in the ears with a headache. I am an RN and note that it increased markedly since within 24-48 hrs of my last dose.  The ringing started out to be very subtle, but is now very uncomfortable.  Sixty % of women get the ringing in the ears according to a recent study.  If any of you Orencia user get these problems be sure to report them right away.  One can suffer hearing loss.  Hope this helps others who find this blog.      Susan Jakab RN

I have been on Orencia for a few years now and I have severe ringing in the ears. When I used to get my infusions, I would get some ringing, but it would go away, but now it is high pitched and stays. I discussed it with my rheumy, but he said that Orencia doesn't cause ringing. I can't sleep, therefore I am very tired. I think it is the Orencia that's causing it. I also get bad headaches. Orencia takes away all my pain, but I can't take this ringing. Will the ringing stop if I get off the Orencia? Reply
