Q: Im getting ready to start Enbrel. Does anyone have comments or suggestions

I have done the Plaquanil and Sulfasalazine and cortizone injections. Guess I am graduating on to weekly injections.

I've been on Enbrel and am now on Humira and have been very fond of both drugs - they've really kicked butt in terms of managing my RA.  The primary side effect I've experienced is sinus issues and after having very frequent sinus infections for a while, I figured out a way to keep them down to a dull roar - you can read more about that in a post I wrote last year about managing side effects.

I hope Enbrel works as well for you as it did for me. Please let us know how it goes?

I've found that injecting into the stomach relieves most of the injection site side effects.

I feel burning at injection site and get strep and bronchitis very often. The joint pain however is much improved.

Hi, Thank you for your response. How often do you get Bronchitis and how long had you been on Enbrel when the bouts of Bronchitis started?

Thanks

I was on Enbrel for 9 yrs. I didn't really have any side effects from it. I think I liked the injection better with the syringe instead of the sure click. It seemed the sure click hurt a bit more. You just click it and it will inject on its own. Kind of a cool set up! A least when I would use the syringe I could stop for a second if I needed to. It just took me a while to get brave enough to do it myself. :-) After a while not too bad. I always injected in my stomach. It seemed if I squeezed the fat harder it hurt less or even not at all. By the time I started Enbrel I didn't have a good range of motion so injecting in my arm was not an option. Reply
