I have osteoperosis and get pains in my lower back. They are mostly on the sides of my back.

I also have ostearthritis in my back and knees.  I take glucosamine sulfate for my knees and I take a lot of calcium every day - 2 600 pills with Vitamin D 400 and I eat a lot of dairy foods.  How can I tell if my pains in the back are from osteoarthris or from collapsed vertabraes in the back.  I had four collapsed vertabraes in my back in February and I thought that they healed.  Now I'm getting pains in my back, shoulders and arms and neck.  Is it fractures or arthritis?

Pain can be caused by many things and you certainly have the kind of medical history that has acquainted you with different kinds of pain.  I can't tell you whether your pain is coming from a collapsed vertebrae or osteoarthritis - first of all, I am not a doctor and second, evidence of involvement of vertebrae versus osteoarthritis can best be diagnosed with an x-ray.  I recommend that you make an appointment to see a doctor soon as possible.  Good luck!
