Are Soma the same as dolobid? I was told that they are.could you please help with this question.
Thank you in advance longhair623
All medications have two names: the generic name of the drug and second, the brand name, used by the drug companies. Based on the research I did on the net, the generic drug Carisoprodol is known by the brand name Soma or Vanadom. It is a muscle relaxant that works by blocking pain sensations between the nerves and is used to treat injuries and what they call "other musculoskeletal conditions". The generic drug Diflunisal is known by the brand name Dolobid and is an NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) used to treat mild to moderate pain and address the inflammation associated with RA and osteoarthritis.
Based on this information, these drugs are not the same - one is an anti-inflammatory, the other a muscle relaxant. Although Soma is not an anti-inflammatory and therefore won't address the swelling that comes with RA inflammation, in other ways, these two drugs likely work in a similar way to address pain. However, I am not a doctor and would therefore recommend that you have a chat with your pharmacist, as well as your doctor to discuss the pros and cons of each medication in order to determine which one would work best for you.
Good luck!
