you can certainly ask any question you want here, although we do specialize in rheumatoid arthritis, so are less likely to know a lot of details about other conditions or situations. We have a Sexual Health site that can give you more information about subjects like this.

I think you're right to be concerned - it's quite possible that the latex in your equipment caused the reaction. Your girlfriend may not be all the way dangerously allergic, but perhaps sensitive. The thing about allergies like that is you can go from having a mild reaction to having a very big, scary reaction very quickly, so I think it's important that your girlfriend asks her doctor for a referral to an allergist so she can get tested for various allergies, including latex and possibly get a prescription for an EpiPen. We also have have an Allergy site where you can find more information about allergies.

good luck! And thank you for being alert and protecting your girlfriend.

Um are you in the right area of this website?

But to answer you very personal question.  The ring you used is made with a different composition of latex than an actual latex condom.  I am alergic to the compostion of latex toys and apparatus and have to actually use a condom to cover them.  So it is a possibility your g/f is having an issue with the ring.  But I would think her whole mouth and not just her bottom lip would have a reaction.  It could be that the addition of the rigidity of the ring could have given her fat lip much like being repeatedly plucked in the lip.

have her put some ice on it to reduce the swelling or even a bit of benadryl if it is itchy.  Head to the doc if it gets worse or does not go away.

As a reminder, condoms are not only used to prevent pregnancy but to help guard against STD's and other little nasty's.

Hope this helped,

Ronie
