I did go to an eye doctor, he suggested that I get an over the counter moisture eye drops, hot packing them and using baby shampoo. Some days its hard for me to drive, I also have a very dry mouth and was just wondering if anyone else has these problems and what they do for it.

ThankyouSmile

Diagnosed in January 07 with RA.

I too suffer from dry eyes and mouth ( diagnosed with Sjogren's secondary along with RA).  I had the same eye symtoms as you until my opthamologist prescribed Restasis for my dry eyes and it is working wonderfully! I take Salagen for the dry mouth, it helps somewhat.

Hope this helps and good luck

I was diagnosed as a toddler with JRA and since then have gone...

I have dry eyes, made worse by contacts until I found contacts that are thinner and breathe more.  Did your eye doctor test you for Sjogren's syndrome (where your body doesn't make enough tears or saliva) or another dry eye syndrome?  I just ask because my mother and grandmother both had Sjogren's which is also an autoimmune disorder.  I was tested, but came back negative for it.  My dry eyes aren't terribly bad, I just carry drops around with me all the time.

In addition to Sjogren's, your symptoms could also be caused by medication. Ever since I started the biologic drugs (Enbrel, Humira), my eyes (and everything else - skin, mouth, etc) have been really dry. I drink a lot of water (A LOT!) - hot water with a small slice of lemon sometimes works better than cold water - carry mints to stimulate saliva production (sugarfree is probably best) and over the counter eye drops 4 times a day (more, if needed).

I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Friday, June 06, 2008

I suffer from Sjogren's along with Rheumatoid Arthritis which causes me to also have severely dry eyes and a dry mouth.  I have found some things that have worked wonders for me and may help you as well.  I use rewetting drops for contacts.  I use them even if I'm not wearing my contacts.  They really seem to keep your eyes from becoming dry and irritated.  The visine allergy drops work really well too!  I use those when my allergies are bothering me as my allergies seem to make my eyes even drier.  Now for dry mouth...Ask your pharmacist about mouthwash that helps with dry mouth.  I know not every store carries it, but they should be able to point you in the right direction.  Now in the toothbrush/toothpaste isle, there are drops that you put into your mouth and swish around that last for hours.  I carry both the rewetting drops and the moist mouth drops in my purse so I have them whenever I need them.  I hope this helps!  Good luck and best wishes!

I have recently been diagnosed with dry eye.  How do you hot pack your eyes?

I will also try the baby shampoo.

Thanks..........Cathy
