Hi Tika,
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is not designed to provide a large benefit. Only enough for food, clothing, and shelter. You can find information on the website http://www.ssa.gov/ssi/, including a tool which can help you determine your eligibility.
I do not know the answer regarding self-employment, but you should be able to find more information on the website above.
that would be a big fat NO!!!!! I cant even get it and Ive been out of work since december. Unless you are blind and/or unable to walk your chances are slim to none. I am going to have to seek a lawyer to get benifits. If you are self employed that makes you capable of working....so if you want assistance you CANNOT work. You can always just apply and see what happens but you will have to explain your finances and if you have them you will be denied. The government wants you to be broke and on your death bed before they help. Its sad and I want to fight against that. All of us are in terrible pain physically and mentally, this disease takes a toll on us and there is NO damn cure. I personally want to start an Autoimmune disease reasurch fund if there isnt one already, all the money spent on cancer research and nothing significant has been found why not find cures for RA....
Good Luck!!
thanks. I am submitting my second claim now, and geting a lawyer on my side for round three. I am on state assistance until then. It is a long and grueling process. the one thing I really dont have is a solid diagnosis. Yes I am positive in bloodwork and have symptoms of RA but the dumb Rheumy doc I am seeing wont put any diagnosis until all my Auto immune disease probably kill me. I have neurological problems and so much more, I am able to walk, talk and think....its when pain hits or sickness prevails I am at a loss..This sucks by far. thanks for your help!!!

The smartest thing you can do is hire an attorney from the start. People try to do it the cheap way and end up having to hire an attorney any way. They do not charge alot so get started the right way.
