the thing about opioids is that you can develop a tolerance to them, where you get used to one dose, need a stronger dose or another type of medication to get the same kind of effect. Your best bet is to talk to your doctor about this so the two of you can work together to get your pain under control.. You may also want to ask your doctor for a referral to a pain specialist. I'd also recommend that you check out our pain management area for tips on how to live with pain. Our Chronic Pain site also has more information on dealing with chronic pain in general.
I agree with Lene, speak to your doctor. Oxycodone is a full release type of pain med. In other words, you get the full effect when you take the pill. Many people I know with RA take this type med for "break through" pain. In my case I take Morphine Sulphate, which is a slow release pain med, twice a day and then take Oxy only as needed for break through pain. These are fairly normal forms of pain mgmt. You would normally be monitored to ensure you are taking them correctly. Please see your Doctor and ask about pain management. Hope you feel better.
