what is sero negative arthritis
HI, My husband was diagnosed with Primary hyper para thyroidism in 2008 that could only be resolved with surgery.
to get him stable he was put on loop diruretics, but lost his potassium out of his system.
eventuley he was stable enugh to have surgey, on the great day he suffered an attack of whatwe now know was pseudogout, he has had inflamatory arthritis ever since. he takes mtx, folicacid, co codamol 30/500 & tramadol & colchisicne for bouts of the pseudogout. It has now been suggested he my have sero neative arthritis ?
There is a blood test that can diagnose RA in about 80% of people who have it (and quite a few who have no symptoms), but many of us have all the symptoms without that particular indicator. So if your husband has painful, swollen joints and responds to RA treatments, he may have it.

Hi, sorry to hear of your husband's troubles. I have RA and thyroid disease also. I wrote an article a while back about blood tests for arthritis. I thought it might help, so I will put the link here for you.

Good luck to you both,

it's certainly possible - approximately 20% of people who have RA have seronegative RA. You can read more about the results and what they mean (including the seronegative aspect) here. Does your husband have a referral to a rheumatologist yet?k if not, I'd suggest he make an appointment with his family doctor to get a referral for further testing and hopefully a diagnosis that will give you the answers you need.
