Q: How long does Simponi take to work?

Just had my first Simponi Shot on Tuesday. Any idea how long it takes to really work? (Yeah - I know I am under 48 hours from when I had the shot, but I want it to work so much... I'm becoming truly neurotic from all the pain!! Embarassed)

I think Simponi is helping a little already. My left hand, knees, shoulders are less bad and I slept better last night - still stressing about pain though.

(On MTX - 25 subq/ wk, Folic A. 3mg/day, HCQ 400/day, Celebrex 400/day and now Simponi 50mg/month)

Hi, Pink,

Unfortunatley, there is not one easy answer to your question.  Most RA meds take a while to work...3 months, generally.  On the other hand, some people see results much quicker than that.  We all react to meds differently.  I know after my first Orencia infusion, I felt better and my swelling decreased.  I hope Simponi works well for you. Let us know how you are doing.

Blessings,

V

V-

Thanks for the response! It is so hard to wait. I have seen some improvements already, but I just so want to be more normal that I am finding myself struggling to remember to be grateful for improvements made. I like the Simponi so far. I still need my MTX 2x a week because i notice an uptick in pain just before my hot, but I have been more functional in the past 3 weeks than I have been for the past 8 months. I hope the upward trend continues.

Thanks again - Pink

V is right. medications usually take 2-3 months to really kick in, but the Biologics do have a habit of every now and again letting their presence be known sooner than that. It often starts with things feeling just a bit better, getting more energy and before you know it, every day brings a little more. I hope when you're feeling is the start of something wonderful.

Please keep us posted?

I like the way you put that "a habit of ...letting their presence be known" that is exactly how I feel! Thanks for the encouragement. I am hoping that every day will bring more and more. I just am so ready for life - if only my body would agree.

I like my name too - I have a carved moose above my computer and he is always smiling at me so "Pink Princess" evolved to include him...:)
