I would absolutely recommend orthotics for shoes.  My feet are severely damaged due to RA and now that I have custom made orthotics I can actually walk and my feet are happy.  Unfortunately insurance doesn't cover for RA and they are very expensive - about $600 but worth every penny if you can walk without pain.  Don't buy anything over the counter.  Have her see a podiatrist and then get custom orthotics.  I promise it will help.  Good look
