Q: Has anyone ever been diagnosed initially with RA due to a rheumatoid nodule on the foot?

I saw a podiatrist for what I thought was an extremely large bunion. She immediately thought it was a rheumatoid nodule. I had labs drawn and I was positive for the RH test. My ANA was also high. Has anyone else been diagnosed this way, and what did you do?

I saw a hand surgeon for what I thought was "trigger finger".  I didn't have a node at that time, but told him I had one for a while that eventually went away.  Dude totally fixated on the whole "node" comment.  Really kind of irritated me.  I was all like, "yeah yeah, but have you noticed how my fingers catch?  Hello?"  Thank God he fixated, cuz he sent me in for some tests, and guess what?!  So yeah, what you are saying sounds VERY familiar.

What I did was whatever I was told to do.  I got a referal to a rheumatologist and again thank God.  It hasn't been fun, but I AM doing much much better.
