Q: Excercise & RA?

Excercise & RA-what is the best to start with that will not make me miserable and unable to function for a week? I have tryed many different regimens and have not been able to get the right one for me-does anyone have any suggestions-I love Yoga but struggle with many of the poses-can anyoelp?

Yoga is an excellent form of exercise and the poses should be relatively easy to adapt to accommodate your limitations - speak to your instructor about your problem and ask them to work with you to find ways of continuingdoing this type of exercise.  We have a post about RA and exercise and you can read that here and Sara Nash, one of our experts, recently wrote a post specifically about yoga and RA.

I have tried Yoga, I put a chair near my mat and use it for several of the poses. I also use the wall or just skip the ones that hurt. That helps a lot. I have found that the elipticals are easy on my joints and water areobics in a pool that isnt too cold feels good as well. Jump into the hot tub if there is one available.. Important to stop when your body tells you. It seems if I can keep up a regular exercise routine, I feel so much better. Reply
