Q: acne and enbrel

i have been taking Enbrel for 8 months and i have been experiencing acne on my face. I am one of the few who escaped my teenage years and 20's without acne. I am 34 and suddenly I have constant rotation of acne on my forehead, chin and jawline. I am thinking its related to the medication. What's your experience?

Hi LeighAnn,

I haven't used Enbrel or any of the anti-TNF drugs.  But I did conduct a quick search on enbrel and acne.  In doing so, I found a brief mention on Johns Hopkins Arthritis Center's website of a possible connection.

"...but there are case reports of patients who have skin problems (acne, psoriasis, eczema, etc.) when starting Enbrel or the other TNF inhibitors."

This would definitley be something to mention to your doctor during your next visit.  There may be something you can do to minimize the skin disturbances.

Good luck.

Lisa,

Hi, I too have actually read the same information you mention in your comment. I have considered mentioning it to my dr, but at my last visit i guess I just felt like it wasn't that big of deal when I look at the overal picture. While it still isn't that big of a deal, and I am tired of going to the dr for every little thing...I was more curious than anything if other people were having the same reaction. I am only guessing that its related to the Medication since I've never had any type of skin trouble and the only thing different is well my medication. I go back to my Dr in Oct. and I will mention it to her then if it contuines to be a bother. Thank you for your comments. :)

Be Well,

LeighAnn

I did not break out from Enbrel.  But I broke out like a teenager when on Humira. Strange strange stuff.
