SAH mom of 3 kids living with RA

10/27/08

I have RA and am taking prednisone and methotrexate among other medications. I am suppose to start taking Humira in a few weeks. I recently got a flu shot and the pneumococcal shot. I have NEVER had chicken pox and am not immune to it. ( I also have 3 kids under 7 yrs old) . My rheumy would like me to get the chicken pox vaccine - however I am having trouble with my pcp - they won't give it to me because I am taking immune-supressing medication and the vaccine is a live vaccine. Has anybody taking these meds had the same trouble getting the vaccine before? Is there really that great of a risk of "catching" chicken pox from the vaccine?

I am all ears...
