Q: How does a person on Medicare afford to stay on Enbrel???

I am new here and brand new to the world of getting ready to go on Medicare.  We have done some homework and it isn't looking good as far as coverage goes for Enbrel.  In my state it would be $1700/month and then $583/month after the donut hole thing and only down to $85/month when we reach the catastrophic amount....we are not wealthy by any means.  My husband and I are hoping to retire from teaching but have been spoiled by only having to pay $24/month for my Enbrel.  It would be too expensive to keep this insurance if we were retired so that isn't an option either.  Have others just given up the drug or am I missing something important????  Enbrel works fantastic for me.  Thanks, Sandy

Hi Sandy,

From what I understand there are several different kinds of "co-pay assistance programs" available. I'm currently at a "$0" copay, then I go to a "$9" copay for the 7th thru 12th month of Enbrel. Someone asked a similar question to this a month or so ago, sorry that I can't remember the poster or when they posted.

I, too, will be searching for co-pay assistance because I can't afford to pay the $343.00/month for Enbrel, either!

Good luck!

there are a number of  that provide financial assistance for the expensive drugs - one of our Experts, Lisa Emrich, recently posted a long list of such programs.

Good luck!

Go to www.enbrel.com and get the phone number call them and answer their questions. I just went from paying 160.00 to 0 for 6 months and then 10.
